ABOUT RED STAR RANCH
Red Star Ranch is located along the Snake River canyon in south-central Idaho. The land was originally settled by our great-grandfather in the 1940’s. Today as 4th generation farmers, we are continually seeking innovative ways to improve and sustain the proud traditions of agriculture in our family.
- We raise heritage-breed Berkshire pigs, a resilient breed with strong mothering skills, bred to thrive on the farm (as opposed to some commercial breeds which are only bred for commercial output at the expense of animal health)
- We do not use antibiotics, mRNA vaccines or growth hormones
- Pigs enjoy a farm-ground ration of non-GMO grain.
- We raise breeds for their genetics, preserving valuable traits that thrive in our low-input system
- Minimum and strip-till technology employed in our row crops
- Diversity through cover crops allows us to maintain year-round soil cover, increase soil fertility, and reduce pesticide use.
- We have decreased our dependence on synthetic fertilizers, controlled erosion, and seen improvements in the health of our soils.
